EFI Expresses Deep Sorrow Following Recovery of Mortal Remains in Manipur

The Evangelical Fellowship of India has learned with deep sorrow that the mortal remains of six persons have been recovered in Manipur. Manipur Police has stated that they are believed to be among those taken hostage from Leilon Vaiphei on 13 May 2026.
Earlier today, EFI had joined many others in praying for the safe return of those still missing. That hope has now turned to grief.
We mourn with the bereaved families, the churches, and the communities that have waited in anguish for nearly a month. We are mindful especially of the families who have endured uncertainty, fear, and pain through these difficult weeks. We also recognise that, among those believed to have died were two pastors whose congregations now share in this grief.
Every human life bears God-given dignity. The loss of life is a wound not only to the families concerned, but also to the wider community.
EFI urges that the circumstances surrounding these deaths be investigated fully, impartially, and without delay. Truth must be established, and those responsible must be held accountable in accordance with law.
At this painful moment, EFI appeals to all communities, leaders, organisations, and citizens to exercise restraint. Grief must not be allowed to give way to retaliation, hatred, or further violence.
EFI prays for God’s comfort upon the grieving families, wisdom for those in authority, and healing, justice, and peace for Manipur.
