EFI Mourns the Passing of Rev. P. C. Muanthanga

The Evangelical Fellowship of India mourns the passing of Rev. P. C. Muanthanga, veteran Christian leader, communicator and mission mobiliser, who went to be with the Lord on the morning of 29 August 2026 in Aizawl. He was 84.

Rev. Muanthanga’s association with EFI goes back nearly five decades. He served as Communication Secretary of the Evangelical Fellowship of India from 1978 to 1986, and as Editor of AIM magazine from 1978 to 1980. Through those years he helped EFI communicate the call to mission, Christian unity and faithful witness to the Church across India.

After EFI, he served as Regional Manager for World Vision in Northeast India and later gave decades of leadership to the Northeast India Harvest Network, mobilising prayer, evangelism and mission across the region and beyond. His concern remained remarkably consistent: that the Church should never lose its missionary calling.

For us at EFI, there is something particularly moving about his relationship with AIM. More than forty years after he had served as its Editor, he was still writing for its pages, contributing as recently as 2024.

In November 2022, one of his articles in AIM was titled “Finishing the Unfinished Task.”

It is difficult to read those words today without thinking of his own life.

The task remains unfinished. But Rev. Muanthanga has completed the part entrusted to him. For more than five decades he called the Church to prayer, evangelism, mission and faithful service.

His life is also a reminder of how much the Church in Northeast India has given to the wider evangelical and missionary movement in India. He belonged to a generation that built bridges between the Northeast and the rest of the Indian Church, and whose vision went well beyond the strengthening of the Church in their own region. They wanted to see the Church in India become a missionary Church.

EFI owes Rev. Muanthanga a debt of gratitude. We thank God for his long life, for his courage through suffering, for his passion for the Gospel, and for his steadfast service to the Body of Christ.

We remember especially the family he leaves behind, and pray that the Lord will surround them with His comfort, strength and peace in these days of grief.

On behalf of the Evangelical Fellowship of India, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, to the Northeast India Harvest Network, to the Baptist Church of Mizoram, and to the many friends, colleagues and Christian communities whose lives were touched by his ministry.

We grieve, but not without hope.

May the Lord comfort all who mourn his passing, and may He raise up another generation to take forward the unfinished task.
