EASTER
Hansraj Jain
“Stop!” he called out loud and clear. The pallbearers did. They set it down. With compassion and pain written all over his face, he looked into the mother’s eyes and then said to the dead young man, get up. And he did! Taking him by the hand, the now alive youth, he turned to the mother and handed the young man’s hand into his mother’s hand, smiled with love and walked away! (Luke 7:12-15).
Was this Resurrection on display on the streets of Nain? I believe not. This was a revelation that “Immanuel”, was among them – the life-giver. Confused? Don’t be.
Bringing someone back to life is definitely a miracle. Even a medical miracle! But it is not Resurrection.
What’s the difference between them?
For all reasons and purposes, those brought back to life later died. None of those who were raised lived on and on and on. Forever.
Resurrection differs here.
Those resurrected are brought back to life, transformed in their physiology (like putting on a new set of clothes never worn before!), the content of their being (psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually) that would live on and on. Forever. Death had died for them when they were resurrected. Jesus achieved it. Jesus offers it as a gift to anyone who would ask of him. (1 Corinthians 15).
Resurrection has two consequences for entire humanity.
- Death is dead. The demand note for the cost of sin paid to the Righteous Judge with a flawless, innocent, blemish-free, holy and sin-free life, namely Jesus Christ. The Righteous Judge has accepted this price – the only price that would and could meet His demand.
- Now, everyone everywhere is invited. The invitation includes forgiveness and the gift of eternal life free from sin-caused bondage through repentance and faith. (Eph 2:8-10)
Now, that’s whom we celebrate – Jesus, the Lord of Resurrection.
Everyone who believes calls Easter the RESURRECTION DAY of their life!
