Lent Devotional: Day 19
Walking Together in Faith
Mrs. Sonia Daniel
Introspection and confession of one’s own sins to God is effortless and less complicated. However, it is challenging when we have to confess our sins to a prayer partner. A prayer partner could be a friend, anyone from your family or from the church community and is someone who you regularly and committedly, pray with and for.
Having a prayer partner emphasises upon accountability wherein we explicitly bare open our struggles and sins with our prayer partners, without the fear of being judged. A prayer partner also supports and encourages with prayers and guidance. We demonstrate transparency as we honestly reveal about our shortcomings. We trust them to guide us, maintain confidentiality about our shortcomings and also to earnestly intercede for our healing and forgiveness.
When we confess our sins to one another, we nurture deeper relationships, break the shame-barrier, and foster humility and penitence. Such a confession helps in receiving forgiveness and builds a stronger relationship with God. Matthew 18:19, states: “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.”.
It then just becomes imperative for us to choose the right prayer partner. Therefore, remember to select a person who is available, a good listener, trustworthy and will maintain confidentiality, someone who will willingly enter into a pact with you to stand by you when required and someone who will be focused on prayer and supplication.
Ideally, choose someone who is easily accessible and can offer spiritual encouragement and accountability in your faith journey.
More importantly, pray to the Lord before selecting a prayer partner and let the Lord lead you to the right person who will walk together with you in faith.
