    Lent Devotional: Day 2

    Prayer and Intimacy with God

    Mr. Surender Pokhal

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7

Lent is a season of reflection, repentance, and renewal. It is a time when we set aside distractions to focus on God’s presence in our lives. One of the most powerful ways to do this is through prayer. More than just presenting our needs, prayer is a divine invitation to intimacy with God. It is not merely a ritual or a duty but a conversation with our Heavenly Father. Through prayer, we enter His presence, pour out our hearts, and listen to His voice. Jesus Himself modeled this intimacy with God by frequently withdrawing to pray (Luke 5:16).

Many times, we struggle to pray because we feel distant from God, unworthy, or too busy. Yet God does not require perfection—He desires a willing heart. Lent is an opportunity to renew our commitment to prayer, casting aside distractions and making space for God in our daily lives. One of the greatest barriers to intimacy with God is anxiety. However, Philippians 4:6 reminds us that instead of worrying, we should bring everything to God in prayer. When we do, His peace fills our hearts and minds, offering comfort beyond human understanding.

To experience deeper intimacy with God, we must consider three key elements of prayer: Adoration, where we begin with worship and acknowledge God’s greatness, love, and faithfulness; Confession, where we ask for forgiveness and realign our hearts with His will; and Supplication, where we present our needs and intercede for others.

During Lent, let us challenge ourselves to spend intentional time in prayer. Set aside quiet moments to talk with God—not only speaking but also listening. As we cultivate intimacy with Him, His peace—one that surpasses all understanding—will guard our hearts and minds. This does not mean life will be free from troubles, but it does mean we can rest in the assurance of His presence.

As we journey through Lent, let prayer be our refuge. Seek God earnestly, and He will draw near to us (James 4:8). His desire is not just to hear our words but to transform our hearts.
