• 2 suspected ultras killed

    The Assam Rifles troops gunned down two unidentified persons suspected to be militants in an encounter near Tengnoupal area in Manipur’s Chandel district on Monday, reports here said.

    Some arms and ammunition were also recovered from the encounter site, sources added. The two bodies have been sent to RIMS hospital here for identification on Tuesday.

    In a separate incident, unknown armed gunmen shot one villager near Kangpokpi area in Senapati district last night. The injured person has been shifted to a nearby hospital.

    Meanwhile, Assam Rifles arrested three Myanmar nationals for sneaking into Indian soil “illegally” on Sunday. The Assam Rifles troops intercepted two passenger Tata Sumo jeeps at a permanent check post at Tengnoupal, 65 km south of Imphal. A total of Rs 8,600 in Indian currency were recovered from them and all of them have been handed over to immigration office at Moreh.
