India, with more than one-third of its population below 18 years, has the largest child population in the world and hence known as a Young Country. On Anti Child labour day 2007, The Times of India reported that India has 12.7 million workers aged between 5 and 14 – the highest in the world . National Family Health Survey III cited Malnutrition to be a significant problem in India. It revealed that 55% of women are Anaemic and 43% of children below 3 are Under-weight. Hindustan Times, on October 15, 2007, reported that India’s rank on the Global Hunger Index 2007 is 94 out of a list of 118 countries, well behind China and Pakistan. UN report has suggested that India is unlikely to make it to the Millennium Development Goals finishing line by 2015.

India has the world’s largest number of sexually abused children, with a child below 16 raped every 155th minute, a child below 10 every 13th hour, and at least one in every 10 children sexually abused at any point in time.

In this World of despair, EFICAR exists and works to bring Joy and Smile into the face of marginalized and under-privileged children. EFICAR believes that every child is a Creation of God and has a right to enjoy life and live with dignity. It aims to create safe and child friendly environment by building capacity of the Local churches, Advocacy, Networking and lobbying, forging solidarity and Organizing Prayer.

It also preserves and promotes the UNCRC and various rights guaranteed by the Constitution of India.

GOALS

1. Vulnerability of Children @ Risk is reduced,
2. Children @ Risk having access to quality education, health care and nutrition.
3. Society free from evil social practices of Child labour and Child Trafficking.
4. Love and Care for the children affected and infected by HIV/AIDS.
